What is Kelp Dance ?

The project intends to recall a childhood game called Kelp Dance. It is a box-guessing game similar to rock-paper-scissors. The process requires players to move their hands and arms like kelp while the players shout, “kelp ah kelp.” Our project aims to replicate the process of this game through motion detection.

Three Forms of Visualization
Hand movements were tracked, recorded, and then curated in various conceptual visualizations to present different patterns of motion interactions. The results generated three distinct forms from the original motion trajectory, consisting of different combinations of polylines, curves, surfaces, and volumes.

Volumes
Surfaces
The three forms represent communication, cooperation, and competition between two players.
Communication

Competition
Form 1: Communication

01
from Motion to Line
02
from Line to Curve
03
From Line to Tube

04
Apply Color to Line Tubes
05
Apply Color to Curve Tubes

Form 2: Cooperation

01
from Motion to Balls
02
Delete Ball When Pressed
03
Change Ball Size by Motion Speed
04
Add Boxes When Presses

Form 3: Competition

01
Connect Motion to Polyline
02
Adjust Polyline to Curve
03
Create Preopercular Lines to Curve

04
Create Surface
05
Create Lines When Pressed
06
